A garça azul (Ardea herodias)come peixes grandes, mas pega pequenos e grandes animais de todos os tipos.
Alimenta-se principalmente espreitando a presa. Alimentam-se de dia ou à noite. Ao longo da costa, o horário de alimentação depende das marés.
Durante o tempo de reprodução habita em grande parte da América do Norte, menos nas montanhas altas e desertos, na América Central e em algumas ilhas do Caribe e do Pacífico.
Fora da época de reprodução habita no litoral e sul da América do Norte, Caribe, litoral do México, América Central, raramente até o Panamá, norte da América do Sul, chegando até ao Brasil (adaptado da Wikipédia).
