Fêmea de guepardo com dois filhotes.
Os guepardos, ou chitas, não se reproduzem bem em cativeiro. Os guepardos não se reproduzem bem em cativeiro. Uma das suas preocupações é que os seus filhotes não sejam comidos por felinos mais fortes, como os leões e outros animais, como a hiena, por exemplo.
Com leões e machos a mãe guepardo tem de distrair o predador em questão chamando a atenção para si enquanto os filhotes fogem para um local mais seguro.
A tática é funcional visto que sua habilidade e velocidade favorecem as manobras de esquiva de possíveis ataques do agressor. Quando estão com filhotes jovens, as mães adotam uma tática mais ofensiva com hienas e chacais e também atacam espécies de ungulados normalmente ignoradas, como zebras, gnus e javalis.
O guepardo pode viver de 14 a 17 anos sob as condições de alimentação e reprodução normais na natureza.
