Os machos atingem a maturidade sexual a partir dos dois anos e meio ou três anos. A fêmea, um pouco mais precoce (dois anos) pode gerar de um a oito filhotes, depois de uma gestação de 90 a 95 dias.
O desmame ocorre cerca de 3 meses e meio após o parto chegando a 6 meses no máximo e, entre os 14 e 18 meses, abandonam a guarda da mãe para passarem a ter uma vida independente.
Ao contrário de outros felinos, as fêmeas não têm um verdadeiro território próprio e demarcado, parecendo, no entanto, evitar a presença das outras.
Os machos podem, eventualmente, juntar-se em grupos, especialmente se nasceram na mesma ninhada.
